The Gun Did It On Its Own? How?
Asthe Second Amendment allows people the right to bear arms for self-defense anda form to resist oppression, it also opens up a window for easy killings. There
have been many incidents like the Columbine shooting and the recent Sandy Hook
that have taken many innocent lives; people who didn’t have to die. But both
incidents were done by men who seemed to have mental issues and would often go
see a psychiatrist—people who shouldn’t be carrying guns, not even purchasing
them. These people are the ones who abuse this amendment and have them stored
maliciously.
But
there are cases where accidents while holding a gun do happen. Someone is
holding a gun, showing off to their friends and it goes off on its own, like it
has happened before. Then in this case, who’s fault is it? The gun or the
person? But the gun wasn’t bought to kill that person and that person didn’t
mean to use it on themself. Now cases like these are the ones that complicate
the gun control controversy even more because who do we blame in this type of
accident. Many will say the gun but the person shouldn’t have been handling it
for any apparent reason.
People
often say that guns should be banned as a whole, but there still are going to
be those people with wrong intentions. We often see hear cases of knives being
used to stab people and they aren’t trying to be banned yet. But if we were to ban guns, other forms of
violence like knives are going to be seen more often and pretty soon they’re
going to have to be banned too.
In
order to purchase a gun, there should be laws in place in every state that
require the gun buyers’ medical records to make sure they don’t have a history
of violence and/or mental issues, a form of license/permit to buy, and should
have to register the gun with the police. It’s clear that it isn’t the weapon
itself, but also the person who is handling it that should be at fault too. But
where do we go from there?
