Your Daily Routine Kills Many!

Your Daily Routine Kills Many!

Millions of animal lives are sacrificed in efforts to improve the lives of humans.

The use of animal testing for cosmetics is said to be vital in protecting the consumers. A recent study shows that “the BUAV’s long-fought campaign to end animal testing for cosmetics finally came to an end in Europe, with the last phase of the European Union’s ban coming into force on 11th March 2013.” If Europe is able to make laws to ban animal testing, the United States is more than capable to do the same. This leads me to question if animal testing on cosmetics is actually necessary.

From the moment you wake up, brush your teeth and take a shower, do you even consider how your toiletries were made safe for you to use? Do any consequences even come through your mind? One thing your favorite companies do not tell you is that your shampoo or toothpaste has been tested on animals. If this did not change your mind into using cruelty-free products, maybe the next thing I tell you will.

Laboratory animals such as dogs, cats, rabbits and monkeys are being tested on the daily. Tests on animals include from rubbing chemicals onto their eyes or skin to test how much it would affect humans. Rabbits are full body immobilized and some struggle as much as breaking their neck to escape free. This type of unfair treatment eventually leads laboratory animals to become mentally ill. Some animals will sway back and forth while others even bite off their own skin.

Some scientists claim that animal testing will lead to medical breakthroughs. Although this may be true, ending animal testing will actually save countless amounts of lives and money. A recent study states that “...non-animal methods usually take less time to complete, cost only a fraction of what the animal experiments that they replace cost…” This proves that animal testing on cosmetics is just a way to justify animal cruelty.

The United States are still conducting many types of unimaginable tests, however, why is animal cruelty considered humane just because the tests are conducted in laboratories? Animal cruelty will still be animal cruelty despite the location. It is truly heartbreaking to even visualize what laboratory animals have to go through.

We are in the 21st century and to subject innocent animals to excruciating experiments is simply not acceptable. We are no longer in need to further advance our society with cosmetic testing.

So how can we fix this? One way to help end the inhumane treatment of laboratory animals is to just stop buying products that are not cruelty-free. Once you stop promoting companies that test on animals, they will eventually run out of business or will be forced to make cruelty-free products.

Animals are born free to roam the Earth and we do not have the right to take away their freedom for our own selfish benefits. Animal testing on cosmetics needs to be stopped, after all, they aren't that different from our own house pets.
