What is True love? Love can refer to a range of different feelings it involves people, places, and
things. Older people may think that love is not for teenagers and young
people because they believe “you want find out what love is until you get older”.
Others may think that true love is a fantasy, waiting on your knight and shining armor to come and rescue you. But love is really a feeling that grows within.
In the movie "Their Eyes Were Watching God",
Janie struggles to find the true meaning of love and what it feels like to
really love someone. Her grandmother told her that love is when a woman is a
mule and she submits to her husband.
People may think
that women should submit to their husbands because in the Bible Women came from
a man’s rib, and In the Bible it also says that Men is the head of the
household, which means he takes control of his wife. But submitting is not a
form of love. It’s allowing for someone to have authority over you, which
allows them to make choices for you. True Love should not be based upon who’s
stronger and who’s weaker. It should be based upon feelings and how much you care
about someone.
In the novel, Janie
resists her grandmother’s definition of love and finds her own through her own
experiences. In the beginning Janie didn’t know the true meaning of love but
after the experience of three husbands she finally discovers it. She didn’t
need a lesson about love it was within her all along and she had to go through
a course of failed relationships to find her true love.
Thats a great question what is love? Many people have yet to experience what the true meaning of love is, however we must all fail to conquer love just like Janie. I love the topic of love because it is such a pure feeling that does not necessarily have to be between and woman and a man. It can be as simple as loving your pet, your car, your job, and your parents. I'm sure we'll all love to be loved some day.
ReplyDeleteI love that finally someone talks about love. But that is a great question what is love? Personally I only said I love you to two people and then I thought I really loved them but maybe I was wrong. I was probably in love with the idea of being loved. And some people actually do realize that. Love should be passion between one another and it should be adventurous and grow deeper over time. We all have to fail to conquer love at some point. I always say you got to go through the wrong paths before you get to the right one.

We might all have different type of definitions about love and might think of it in different ways but we all discover its true meaning someway somehow. For some of us it might take time to discover it and for others real fast. Who knows when? And would one day Love have just ONE definition ?
ReplyDeleteInteresting post. You discuss a really wonderful work of art. I think you are right, too, that part of what TEWWG does is to call into question our notions of "true love", which is part of why it is such a highly regarded piece of fiction.
ReplyDeleteReally though. What is the definition of love? I agree with you. Being in love does not mean that a women needs to give up on her life in order to give it to a man; she is not an object. I feel that today these women are just in love with the idea of love so its difficult for them to get away from the man that they are already attatched to.
ReplyDeleteA women and man have both rights to determine how they will treat themselves when they are in love with each other, but I think certain things that are usual displayed in relationships are totally fair. so I definitely agree with on this point. GREAT JOB!
ReplyDeleteOne must think about what love really is at times because it is more of a pleasurable fantasy we have that makes one feel good inside. I think when one is in a relationship both persons have the same equal word. In other words both person treat each other as the other would want to be treated.
